On the day of treatment, we walk you through every step before anything begins. Nitrous oxide is the gentlest option, delivered through a small mask that lets you relax during the visit and resume normal activity right after. Oral sedation uses a single dose of medication taken before the appointment, leaving most patients calm, drowsy, and with little memory of the procedure. IV sedation is the deepest option, administered by a board certified anesthesia provider and reserved for longer procedures or patients who need full relaxation.
Throughout every sedation visit, your safety comes first. We monitor vital signs continuously, our team is fully trained in emergency response, and Dr. N personally oversees every step. Who is a good candidate for sedation dentistry?

Will my child or I be unconscious during sedation?
Most sedation dentistry leaves the patient relaxed and drowsy, but still responsive. Only IV sedation produces a deeper state where the patient is barely aware of the procedure. We discuss exactly what to expect before any treatment begins.
How long do the effects of sedation last?
Nitrous oxide wears off within minutes of removing the mask, so patients can resume normal activity and drive home immediately. Oral and IV sedation can leave patients drowsy for several hours, which is why a responsible adult must drive them home and observe them through recovery.
Is IV sedation the same as general anesthesia?
No. IV sedation produces a deep, calm state of relaxation while the patient still breathes on their own. General anesthesia is a fully unconscious state used in a hospital setting. IV sedation in our office is administered by a board certified anesthesia provider for added safety.
Can I drive home after a sedation visit?
Yes after nitrous oxide. No after oral or IV sedation. For oral and IV sedation visits, a responsible adult must drive the patient home and remain with them for several hours of recovery. We will give you complete instructions in advance.
Is sedation dentistry covered by insurance?
