What It Is

Three Levels of Comfort, One Standard of Care

Sedation dentistry uses safe, doctor administered medications to help patients relax during dental visits. At Little Smiles of Beverly Hills, we offer three options — nitrous oxide, oral sedation, and IV sedation — so every patient, from a nervous four year old to a parent with dental anxiety, gets the level of comfort they need.

Your Options

Three Safe Paths to a Calm Visit

Every option is administered by trained professionals with continuous monitoring

Level 1 — Mildest

Nitrous Oxide

Often called laughing gas, nitrous is delivered through a small mask and helps patients relax during their visit. The effects wear off within minutes, so patients can drive home and return to normal activity right away. Safe for both children and adults.

Level 2 — Moderate

Oral Sedation

A single dose of medication is taken before the appointment. Patients remain responsive but deeply relaxed, often with little memory of the procedure afterward. Ideal for moderate anxiety and longer visits. A responsible adult must drive the patient home.

Level 3 — Deepest

IV Sedation

Administered intravenously by a board certified anesthesia provider, IV sedation produces a calm, deeply relaxed state where the patient is barely aware of the procedure. Reserved for longer treatments, complex cases, or patients with severe anxiety. Full recovery monitoring included.

Our Approach

Safety First, Comfort Always

Every sedation visit at Little Smiles begins with a careful conversation. Dr. N reviews your medical history, current medications, and any past experiences with dental care. We talk through what level of sedation makes sense for the procedure, your comfort level, and your overall health. The goal is never to over sedate, only to make the visit as easy and stress free as possible.

On the day of treatment, we walk you through every step before anything begins. Nitrous oxide is the gentlest option, delivered through a small mask that lets you relax during the visit and resume normal activity right after. Oral sedation uses a single dose of medication taken before the appointment, leaving most patients calm, drowsy, and with little memory of the procedure. IV sedation is the deepest option, administered by a board certified anesthesia provider and reserved for longer procedures or patients who need full relaxation.

Throughout every sedation visit, your safety comes first. We monitor vital signs continuously, our team is fully trained in emergency response, and Dr. N personally oversees every step. After your visit, we send you home with simple recovery instructions and stay available for questions. Most patients leave saying the same thing: that was easier than they ever expected.

Why Choose Us

The Bridge Across Dental Anxiety

For some patients, the fear of the dentist is the only thing standing between them and a healthy smile. Sedation dentistry is the bridge across that fear, and it is only as safe and effective as the team delivering it. At Little Smiles of Beverly Hills, that team has been built around making sedation visits genuinely calm for both children and adults.

Dr. Sepehr Nassiripour, DDS has years of experience providing sedation dentistry for patients of every age and need. He has cared for nervous toddlers at their first cleaning, special needs children who need a fully relaxed state for treatment, and adults who have avoided the dentist for years out of fear.

His calm, gentle approach has made Little Smiles one of the most trusted offices in Beverly Hills for patients who need extra support. Many of those patients return for their next visit without needing sedation at all, simply because they no longer associate the dentist with fear.

We are also recognized as one of the leading practices in Beverly Hills for children with special needs, which means our team is unusually skilled at adapting sedation visits to the patient in the chair. We slow down when needed, we explain everything, and we tailor every detail to keep the experience safe and stress free.

IV sedation is provided by a board certified anesthesia professional working alongside Dr. N, adding an extra layer of safety and oversight that few dental offices in Beverly Hills can match.

Frequently Asked Questions

Answers Patients Ask Us Most

Common questions about sedation dentistry in Beverly Hills

What types of sedation do you offer?

We offer three levels of sedation for both children and adults: nitrous oxide (laughing gas), oral sedation taken as a single dose before the visit, and IV sedation administered by a board certified anesthesia provider. Dr. N will recommend the safest and most comfortable option for your specific needs.

Is sedation dentistry safe?

Yes. When administered by trained professionals with proper monitoring, sedation dentistry is very safe. At Little Smiles, vital signs are monitored continuously throughout every sedation visit, our team is fully trained in emergency response, and Dr. N personally oversees every case.

Who is a good candidate for sedation dentistry?

Sedation is helpful for patients with dental anxiety, young children, patients with special needs, those who have trouble sitting still, patients with a strong gag reflex, and anyone undergoing longer or more complex procedures. Dr. N evaluates every patient individually before recommending sedation.

Will my child or I be unconscious during sedation?

Most sedation dentistry leaves the patient relaxed and drowsy, but still responsive. Only IV sedation produces a deeper state where the patient is barely aware of the procedure. We discuss exactly what to expect before any treatment begins.

How long do the effects of sedation last?

Nitrous oxide wears off within minutes of removing the mask, so patients can resume normal activity and drive home immediately. Oral and IV sedation can leave patients drowsy for several hours, which is why a responsible adult must drive them home and observe them through recovery.

Is IV sedation the same as general anesthesia?

No. IV sedation produces a deep, calm state of relaxation while the patient still breathes on their own. General anesthesia is a fully unconscious state used in a hospital setting. IV sedation in our office is administered by a board certified anesthesia provider for added safety.

Can I drive home after a sedation visit?

Yes after nitrous oxide. No after oral or IV sedation. For oral and IV sedation visits, a responsible adult must drive the patient home and remain with them for several hours of recovery. We will give you complete instructions in advance.

Is sedation dentistry covered by insurance?

Some PPO insurance plans cover sedation when it is medically necessary, especially for pediatric and special needs patients. Please call our office at (310) 362 5310 and we will gladly verify your benefits and explain any costs before your visit.
